Connacht Fleadh 2019 Results
The Connacht Fleadh competitions took place in Swinford on the weekend of 6th to 7th July 2019 (article by Teresa McCormack.)The great event was organised by the Michael Davitt Branch of Comhaltas. The town this year is celebrating 250 years of its status. Swinford also held the All Ireland Fleadh in 1961.Much thanks is due to the hard working committee of the Michael Davitt branch and to Connacht Council members for organised a very successful Fleadh and providing a week long programme which commenced on Monday 1st July. The varied programme included a local entertainment night, singing club, concert, an official opening event and a Ceili on Friday 5th July. Competitions were held on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th July.A huge crowd of participants and visitors gathered in the town to compete, play music, sing, and dance for the weekend. Competitors from Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Mayo and Galway took part in the competitions on Saturday and Sunday from under 12 age group to over 18 age group. The competitions concluded on Sunday evening with groups and marching bands. The final competition was the senior céili band competition, with 4 bands taking part .Adjudicators for the weekend were from outside the Connacht region, North, South and East of the country.A special souvenir programme was published for the event, which included the list of competitors with articles of archival interests and photographs.Competitors from County Sligo featured prominently among the prizewinners with first and second placed competitors qualifying to take part in Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann in Drogheda on the weekend of 16th to 18th August 2019.
